Lightbulb Hyacinth in Semi-Hydro

Has anyone tried Hyacinth bulbs in Semi-Hydro? I am experimenting with my bulbs, they have been in Semi-Hydro for 3 weeks now, 2 weeks in low light and 1 week in full light. Will keep everyone updated on the results.

They ought to be great. It is pretty common to grow them in water culture, using plain rocks for stability, so the environment of the S/H pot ought to be great. That does look awfully dry though...

Haven't grown hyacinths in S/H but I grow many tropical bulbs in S/H and they do just fine. They are huge feeders though.

Only problem I see you having is adequately chilling them in winter in future years to set flowers. Don't know what winters are like in Lebanon, but you may have to put them in the fridge in future.

Cheers.
Jim

Thank you Ray, I am using Kelpak weekly on them. The top layer looks dry yes because they are outside, I watered them yesterday.

The reservoir is half way down the pot.

Thank you Jim.

Winters in Lebanon are cold, I keep them in a dark cellar where it is cold and dark all the time.

Not exactly the same, but I forced some daffodils in semi-hydro. All I did was pot them up, put them in the fridge, then took them out once the leaves were 4 inches tall. They bloomed beautifully! I plan on forcing the same bulbs this year, hopefully with similar results.
