Also, (hope I don't sound dumb here) but you do wait for the new roots on the dends as well before transferring right? Like spring time? I don't want to kill my new purchases before we're friendly.

Any help or advice is most welcome. Thank you in advance.

Yes, Dendros do we'll in S/H. I've had an Emma White growing this way for a couple of years just fine. A friend of mine in my local orchid society grows them for the florists in the area and he grows all of his in either straight lava rocks or #2 gravel (whichever he has on hand) in black plastic nursery containers. He said when he lived in Hawaii, this was how all the commercial cut flower grower grew their plants as they like to be a little on the dry side.
I'll post a picture of his Emma White that was about 5 feet tall when I get home to my computer.

Cheers.
Jim

Dendro. 'Emma White' grown in #2 gravel in a plastic nursery pot. This plant was about 5 feet tall with multiple spikes per stem.

Pardon the crappy cell phone pictures.

Cheers.

Wow, thats amazing! Gives me hope for my new babies. I'm going to wait for them to finish blooming and start some new roots then I'll make the transfer. Your plant is stunning!

I have a both of my surviving ones in S/H. They were in a bad way in the spring with hardly any roots and almost lost all their leaves over the winter (these shouldn't be deciduous). I put then in S/H as they needed to grow new roots anyway so why not into the S/H lecca. They have grown new growths and new roots and seem happy, still not massively healthy plants but they seem to like it more than the bark they used to be in and the new parts are looking good.
