That's been my experience with Phals. The plants I switched in spring with new root growth did beautifully, until winter. We let it get down to 60'F at night in the winter and my Phals really suffered for it. Phals that I've kept in bark and mounted do better, probably because they tend to be drier, so less evaporative cooling.
