I have another question and I would like to know if any f you have ever used Sand as S/H Medium?
I just created a Succulent Gardens of Sand, and I put my Pachira Aquatic and 2 Elephant Foot in Sand also. But I'm afraid to use it in other not Succulent Plants.
I've never personally tried it, but I would have to say for epiphytes it would be death. Sand wouldn't allow much air into the media, and I think you would end up suffocating the plant. Some terrestrials would probably grow fine that way though.
Pure sand and orchids seems like a bad call. Pure sand, orchids and semi hydro = death.
There are probably a few species of plants that might handle it, but the medium would become extremely anoxic in all but the smallest pots. Not sure the dampness will help your succulents either. Anthuriums strike me as quite happy in damp media.
There's a reason most hydro and semi hydro media have so much void space.
Aeroids, mas o menos. Depending. Orchids, forget it. Bromeliads ? Yeah. Not here(too wet) but, for example Florida they do OK. Mulch-bark-rock is better.
