Make yourself an average American consumer for a moment....I know, frightening... But which would you buy? Something called Amaryllis....or...hippeastrum? Amaryllis won and was used as a marketing tool to sell these plants. That's how I've understood to to be. Sad, really, because those of us who grow them and hybridize them like to call the hippies for short. Lol

My favorite,

Ryan, yours are STUNNING !!! I was just thinking of getting one to bring as an Xmas gift to the party I'm going to on the 18th. Home Depot has a hard sale going on as you walk in the door, I almost got one last time I was there. New style glass pots in an "Amaryllis kit" with different color stones etc. REAL EYE CATCHING display !!! I'll be going TODAY !!! One for the party and 1 for me, a Hippe for a hippie !!!

BTW, in case you're all wondering, my avatar is a parrot named . . . . MERLYN !!! Don't remember where I found the pix !

1.) I use room temperature distilled water on my orchids. Is room temperature okay? Is there any benefit to using warmer water?
Room temp is fine. I find that phals prefer warmer water, but the RO tank in my greenhouse is on the order of 60°, which is why I boost it to 70°.

I would flush at every watering by removing the inner pot and plant from the outer one, flush it thoroughly, dump the outer pot, then reassemble and refill with nutrient solution. Some plants can probably tolerate less-frequent flushing.

I don't believe it would foster fungal issues, but keep in mind that the plant will have to grow new roots tailored to that new environment.
