Burrageara Nelly Isler in S/H? Male
Default Burrageara Nelly Isler in S/H?

I recently purchased a Burrageara Nelly Isler "Swiss Beauty". The plant is in bloom. My plan is to repot when it is done flowering. I was wondering if anyone has experience with this plant in S/H? or if it would be a good candidate for S/H culture?

Thanks.
Bob

I have a Burrageara Stefan Isler that does very well in S/H.

Your Nelly should also but be sure and start it when it's putting out a new pseudobulb and roots.

Bob
That plant will do well on S/H ... while still getting used to the LECA; majority of its roots will tend to grow above the LECA...you will need to spritz the top layer media every morning since it will tend to dry off ...you can stop the spraying if the roots have managed to go deeper downwards towards the water...old leaves and old roots will die but dont be worried, as soon as the plant gets used to the media it will grow new roots and new leaves.

I am wondering how it went, too. I just brought one of these home.

Here is my update.

My Nelly Isler was put into S/H at the end of November. It had finished flowering and had a new growth and a few new roots showing. The biggest problem was working out all the moss in the center of the root ball, I spent at least an hour on that alone, teasing moss out with a toothpick.

So far, so good. It now has two new growths, growing slowly, which have some brownish spots. I am cutting back on fertilizer levels to see if that helps.

In Mid February, the plant starting showing two spikes and the first is getting close to blooming, but the spike is not very tall. I will post a photo soon, when it blooms.

The first two of these I had died. So I thought the S/H would be a good way to go with it to avoid watering issues. So like I said so far, so good, but it's only been a little less than 4 months.

WOW! I am impressed...you managed to let your plant bloom on S/H...Congratulations!
The brownings and black spots are due to cold water droplets...make sure to give it room temp water or tepid water from your sink...
Its normal for your plant to spike every four months...
no worries about fertilizer that plant loves to feed and drinks a lot...just flush it twice a month to remove the plant debris and some wastes the plant has...also the algae will not grow fast
