It's so weird! I wonder what the exact issue with the Renanthera was because pretty much everything else I toss in S/H goes nuts and puts out gorgeous root growth! The only other orchid I had fail in S/H was a Paph.

Paphs were the first plants I tried when developing the culture technique, and the did so well, it encouraged me to try others.
I would say the the most significant factor leading to "S/H Failure" is poor timing for repotting.

Ray, you must be right re: the Renanthera. I do think it must have been my timing because it was a very healthy specimen when I received it.
With Paph it could have been timing too but I suspect it might have been in compromised health when I got it.
But given only two failures out of forty or fifty pottings in S/H, I like those numbers!

Don't call it a failure. It was merely wrong timing. Had you known ; you could have done something about it.
