I also have a cochleanthes amazonica in S/H and it blooms much more than it did in bark. I was hesitant to change that one over, because it is so large, but I am happy that I did.
I have all my paphs and phrags in it and they do great.... but I agree, it is not for everyone. They just happen to like my growing conditions in my home. I find it very easy and clean to grow them that way. The only problem is when they tip over, all those little buggers roll away. I still would rather pick up the S/H medium than bark mixture, it is not as dirty and messy on my carpet.
