mist hydroton surface? Male
Default

In drier atmospheres, and/or with inferior LECA, the wicking cannot keep up with the evaporation rate, so you get significant drying of the top surface, potentially with deposition of minerals from the fertilizer solution.

When that happens, sometimes plants' roots will "shy away" from penetrating it, so by keeping it moist, the top is more "root friendly".
