Rescue noID In semi-hydro, success!
I picked up a starter kit from First Rays a while back, and put a few noID plants into it to try it out, one Phal which is hanging in there not doing much, and one ??? that a friend found literally on the ground in the garden of her apartment complex.
I checked it today and noticed that it's put out some new growth!
If anyone has an idea what it is, I'd love some help with an ID.

Possibly oncidium, just a guess, or one of the hybrids. Would be able to tell more once it flowers.

Yeah - it's most likely Oncidium alliance.
Nice save!

Thanks phearamedusa and WhiteRabbit... It's a small success, and probably not a rare or super interesting plant, but I hate to see anything die needlessly, you know?
Cheers!

Absolutely! I am quite fond of Oncidium alliance, so I would have definitely snatched this up to have a go at saving it! And when it blooms will be exciting to see what it looks like! Keep us updated!

Yeah it's definitely in the Onc Alliance. New growths are really encouraging, but if that's the only one, get ready to be nursing it for at least a year. If some of the other pseudobulbs survived, and the roots as well, you could get some blooms off the new growth. Good Luck, and it's always great to see new growths isn't it!

I'll update if if ever blooms. Right now I'm just happy that it's got a bit of growth! When I put it into the semi-hydro it didn't have any root system to speak of at all. I'm constantly amazed at the resilience of these plants. I also wish I'd known about this technique before throwing out two older plants several months ago. ; (
