Thanks cb977! Sounds like this stuff isn't as hard as I was thinking to disinfect.

On a side note...what is that orchid that you are using as your avitar? It' so stunning!

It gets so hot here that I try to not use the oven much in the summer. So, I wash the used LECA really well, let it completely dry, then put it into flat roasting pans. I put these in the BBQ grill and hold the temperature at 350 to 400 degrees for 3 to 4 hours. I have no idea how stable some of the orchid viruses are so maybe this is overkill. Remember, if you boil it you can't achieve a temperature greater than 212 unless you use a pressurised vessel.

It's beautiful Sue! Did it ever develop a scent?

I am so blown away by the HUGE variety of orchids out there. I knew there were a lot but I keep running into chids I've never even heard of before. They are so amazing!
