The best time to repot a plant into semi-hydroponics is when it is just initiating new roots, but if it is actively growing, you should be OK if you keep it warm.

There are two schools-of-thought on the rest period: one is to withhold water as is the standard approach, the other is to continue watering, but apply absolutely no fertilizer during the rest period.

Thank you very much.
I know the basics of sh, I have over 30 phals in it for almost a year, they love it, some Oncidum alliance ones, one cymbidium and now I want to put this nobile.

What about rehidrating the media after the rest period, for, if i witheld water, the media will loose the water it gained by soaking, and if i soak the pot with the plant, won t the change from non watering be too abrupt?

Hi Corina,
I don't know if it'll help but I have a hybrid nobile in sh.
I didn't take the water out of the reservoir but left it at low levels this winter until leaves dropped & buds appeared.. It's in a very tall pot here is a link to my growing of this in S/H. Dendrobium Nobile ?

Hi,Nenella, that is great, as mine is also Stardust. And yours is doing fine with sh.
Do you change temperatures when you lower the water level?
