That may be how that paticular mold got its name but please believe me - it can affect orchids as well.
Cool wet conditions with poor air movement will make it show in affected plants.
One of the orchid societies I belong to has an excellent web site St. Augustine Orchid Society - Growing Orchids in North Florida Go to Culture and select Orchid Pests and diseases. Lot of nice information there.
