I looked up PondCare Accuclear (made about 5 miles from me), and it appears to be a bacterial culture (proprietary), as overdosing can result in the reduction of dissolved oxygen.

I'm wondering if you can just set a clear semi-hydroponic pot inside an opaque pot to block the light that would prevent algae from growing. You can always pull out the clear pot to water and observe the roots and then return it to the outer container that blocks the light. This is for prevention of course.

I agree with Judy. Just slip it in a nice gazed container from Ikea and be done with it.

It's a simple fact: water + nutrients + light = algae.

Eliminate any one and there will be no algae. As light through the container wall is the only viable choice, that absolutely will work.

I have often thought that an opaque pot having one of those vertical, translucent "windows" (like some chemical jugs) would be the ideal S/H pot - no algae, but you would still have a way to see the liquid level.

Any of you so concerned about algae that you'll contribute about $50,000 to help me buy the tooling necessary?
