Thanks Ray,
That makes sense since the roots of most plants grow best when the soil is warm.

Maureen;
An orchid grower near a friend of mine in Virginia grows all his display plants in LECA without going to S/H. He just pots them up in the traditional method in clay azalea pots or clay bulb pans and LECA.
He waters his displays daily, more often in the summer, and his plants look awesome.
Cheers.

Changing from old medium to S/H
I usualy keep my new plants in the medium they came with and repot to "Prime Agra" S/H soon after the plant finishes flowering, that seems to be when the new roots start to appear.
See "First Rays Orchids" for more S/H info.

Thank you sooo much to all.
Mine are now in LECA. Plastic pots, so I can keep an eye on things, slipped into clay for added humidity.

You just saved my orchids life. I only have 6, but tomorrow I receive my s/h supply shipment and planned to repot all 6 to s/h. I will wait and temporarily use the same kind of medium they are now in. None are blooming.
All 6 of my orchids and I thank you.

Forgot to mention that my 6 orchids are putting out new leaves and new roots. What direction should I use in repotting. Eventually my entire, soon to be growing collection of orchids, will be grown in s/h. Am I safe to repot to s/h this week?

As long as they are putting out new roots, they'll be fine. You need new roots as these will adapt to the new growing conditions while the old roots die.
Cheers.

Gareth,
My original post was regarding a burrageara and a cambria. I repotted both in LECA as a traditional medium as was suggested.
The burrageara soon started putting out new bulb growth and roots so 2 weeks ago I transferred it to a SH pot and it's going strong.
The cambria hasn't started active new growth but it is also very happy and I'll switch it to the SH pot when it's ready.
This technique really worked well for me. I usually end up with dead or struggling oncidium types if I leave them in their original pots or try to use a bark mix.
