SH candidates? - Orchid Board

Got some new plants in today and I was wondering if anyone has any experience putting any of these plants into SH.
Phal Deceptrix
Schombocattleya Louise Fuchs
Encyclia Cochleata x Enc. Vespa
Epidendrum Jasminoides x Epi Yellow Capri

the last 2 I cant seem to find a whole lot of info on anyways. But wondered if anyone had success with any of them in SH.

I'd say yes to the Phal and the Encyclia. I'd also be wary of putting a Shomb. in s/h, although I may be wrong.

There is a good running list as a "sticky" at the top of the S/H Forum.

and an awesome list it is too. my only question about the Encyclia cochleata ( because i saw someone has one already) is the X ENC VESPA part.

The simple fact is that nobody can tell you what plants WILL do well in S/H for two reasons:

1) Pretty much any plant can be grown that way, but

2) Your growing conditions can affect it.

I would say that the only plants I have never heard of anyone not being successful with is the tolumnia.

Thanks Ray, I did find some more info on the plants I got and found that aside from the schombocattleya, the other 3( I believe) will do great in SH.

What makes folks think the schombocatt won't? I'm not challenging the statement, just asking.

I just said that "I'd be wary of it" b/c I know that Shomb like to a dryer culture or at least dry out between waterings - like a Tolumnia.

My conditions don't lend themselves to SH well, or maybe it's just me. I have found that it's the best and fasted way to root cuttings of my Brugmansia!

kinknstein, If you want some seeds for the brugmansia ill send em to ya. got a bunch.
Also, what I meant was, I couldnt find ANYTHING about schombocattleya online so I wouldnt know if it was right for the SH. I do however have a Potinara ching hua ( rose red) that seems to be doing great in SH. So Im sorta confused with some of these plants that supposedly like to dry out between waterings. My dendrobiums did not enjoy the SH but the Ching Hua is growing like a weed.

i broke a piece off my Fuchsia ''pinklg.alore'' , and stuck it in sh. it has,n,t looked back since.
that was 2 months ago and the pot is filled full of roots.
a bit off topic btw.
