What do you use to lower the pH?
I've noticed that the roots on my orchids in S/H are turning brown/brick red, same color as the leca. I flush every week, and I mist them everyday. Does daily misting cause the minerals to wick up the roots faster?

Hello!

I`m doing the same thing since july 2004, adjusting the PH to 5.6 with nitric acid 15% ( 1 ML per gallon ).
I don`t have this problem anymore !

I use "pH Down" from a local Grow Shop. Contains Phosphoric Acid, Citric Acid and Ammonium Bisulfate. About 1/2 ml in a gallon lowers my pH from 7.1 to 5.9.

I work in a lab with access to all sorts of acids. Would I be able to use any of these safely with plants? HCl, Acetic, propionic acid, surely not Sulfuric.

Hi,

I let pellets stay over night in water with
addition of vinegar acid (25%) and then rinse
well!! with tap water and let them soak another 5 days
in tap water, I do it twice until there is no smell of vinegar.
I think maybe citric acid would be better.
I got some pellets that was used in normal hydroponics
and build extreme salt (minerals?), so I had to get rid off...
Now, even after month, they look better than new
