Default germination times?

Hello!
Has anyone found any good information on the various seed germination times? I have flasked about 20 different kinds of dendrobium about 7 months ago and I haven't noticed any change in my jars... Bad seeds?

Possibly. 7 months is diffinatly long, especially for a common genus like dendrobium. What species and what media are you using. Were they sowed dry seed? How did you sterilize the seed? What was your source for the seed?

Hey,

I'm using the recipe and techniques posted here about flasking and replating. Its the agar, fructose, kln, and root hormone mix. I've used it before and it seems to work great! There's a long list of species, but here's a few: Dend. Crepadatum and heroglossum
Aerides houlettiana and crassiforia
vanda pumila and bensonii
Ascocentrum ampullaceum and a few various bulbophyllums. After looking again at my collection, I realized that its a wide variety of seeds not just dendrobiums. Yes they were sowed dry seed. I just stick them in a coffee filter and dip in bleach a few times then I fold the coffee filter inside out and dab it against the media to make it stick. Sounds crazy but its worked well in the past. I got all my seeds from a guy on ebay. (Kumpol_p) About 12 of 30 flasks I started actually grew, but I found a new source that I'm going to try and we'll see if its my jars/technique or if its the seller. What you think??

I don't know about your media recipe, but with such a mix bag of species, I would be surprised if they would all do well on the exact same media. I have bought seeds from Kumpol a few years back and was very happy with the results.

Since almost half the flasks germinated, I would say that some of the seed you recieved was not vialble, or was killed in the disinfection process.

Aaron Hick at the OSP is a great source of seed.
