Let it grow, how long have you got this plant now in water culture. I have never tried it and am very curios to hear about your results.

Its only been a few days. I started it on friday and have been keeping close tabs on it. So far everything looks good. The roots are still firm, not soft. I'll try to get some pics on when i get home from work.

Very interesting thread! If the roots do rot or go soft, I would be interested to know how long it takes for it to happen. No reason really, just curious. And what if a person would use an air pump in the water like what is used to aquariums. Would the oxygen from the pump help the roots out? Just something I have been pondering is all. Can't wait to see how your experiment turns out!

From what i gather the roots do need some sort of oxygen but the article i read suggested leaving the algae growth to oxygenate the water. I change the water regularly on my water culture Onc and Dens. I dont really have a sched that i follow for water changes i just go by the clarity of the water. I find it gets mirky after a few days

Here's a picture of my Ruby Leopard I just took today. She bloomed a few days ago. First placed in water vase seven months ago, to the day! She gets dappled sunlight in a south facing window. Green water is from algae, which I encourage. Seems to help aerate the roots.

Wow that is amazing! It doesn't look like it has many roots though...perhaps it is the angle of the photo? How often do you change the water and how often do you use fertilizer in the water?

Yes, not many roots, the biggest is on the other side of the vase, but it's healthy and growing.
I give a water change with fresh algae about once or twice a month, plus I keep it topped up every few days.
Just enough fertilizer to keep the algae going, mostly during the full changes.

That is beautiful and amazing! I can't wait to experiment with water culture too.
