How much MSU fert AND K-L-N should I add??
Smile How much MSU fert AND K-L-N should I add??

Hello,

I know there's a thread out there on this, but I can't seem to find it when I search.

I purchased the MSU fertilizer for RO and the Dyna-Gro K-L-N Root Growth Stimulant from First Rays back in July. Things got busy, so I haven't had time to sit down and figure out exactly how much to add. I vaguely remember reading a thread about how much of this others add, and was wondering if someone who knew the amounts off hand wouldn't mind posting them for me.

Rays page says that if you order the kit, he includes a how-to guide for first time users. I didn't order the kit, but ordered separately, hence no how-to guide for me.

I read on rays website that he includes a measuring scoop with the fert...I'm wondering if I'm supposed to add 1 scoop per gallon of RO water?

Also, how much of the root grow should I be adding? (Both to plants I'm prepping to move over to S/H, as well as to the soaking water?) I'd prefer amounts in tsp rather than ppm (simply because I'm swaped right now and would prefer not to have to do any conversations) if anyone has them off hand.

Thanks!

Niki

here's a link to Ray's fertilizer calculator:

I normally use approx. 1/2 tsp of MSU, and 2 - 3 droops of KLN per gallon (use the spoon sent y Ray!) this would give a N ppm of about 110, and all plants are doing fine with it...

(actually I put 5 tsp in 4 gallons water!)

Now, Niki.... Have you considered reading the labels?

Right under the fertilizer formula it says "Recommended Rate 3/4 tsp/gal", and in the middle of the K-L-N label there is a table of application rates:

Drench or presoak: 1 to 3 teaspoons per gallon
Misting or transplanting: 1 teaspoon per gallon
Fertilizer supplement: 1 or 2 drops per gallon

Thanks for the responses everyone!

Do you all just add the root grow every time you water and fert, when the plant is not in bloom, or just when you are transferring to S/H?

And Ray, thank you for pointing out that this info is on the label. I did actually look at the labels once before and swear that the info wasn't there. But, things have been crazy here lately (we're doing a complete house renovation and I just changed jobs) so it's likely that in my rush I either missed it or simply mis-remembered, lol.

The other reason I wanted to ask the board is because I do remember from reading other threads that some people experiment with the amounts of MSU fert and KLN that they use. I figured it couldn't hurt to ask...at worse I'd get made fun of and at best I'd learn what everyone else was doing!

Niki, I add 2 drops KLN right before I fertilize (every fertilizing.) Doesn't take much.

Ray and everyone - have you done or seen any experiments showing the effect of KLN on growth or flowering? If KLN is not used immediately, does it break down in solution and become counterproductive in any way? What does an overdose of KLN do to growth?

inducing roots

KLN or Superthrive are intended more for robust root development than for growth or flower production. As Ray states, yes it does degrade once mixed (very rapidly) but also in storage. One would need to keep the concentrate out of direct light and as cool as possible to slow down the degradation process.

Ray

I use a Dosatron injector. Can I add KLN to my solution mix, which will last for about 3-4 weeks. Does it remain usable after that amount of time, or does it loose it's potency?

Marilyn, it depends upon the temperature your mixing tank is and whether it is exposed to sunlight.

At room temp, with exposure to light, I think you'd be lucky to have it last more than a week.
