Thumbs up Prime Agra works great for tall Dendrobiums

My first orchid was a gift noid Dendrobium that fell over so many times that I lost count . Needless to say, the roots kept getting broke each time it fell over. We live in a high wind area and the taller dendrobiums had a tendancy to fall over.

About six months ago I planted it in prime agra and it hasn't fallen over since and the roots are very healthy. I'll have to post some pix later. Well, actually, it did get caught in a high gust last week and slightly tipped over BUT the roots were so intertwined with the agra that it didn't move!!

I plan on using the SH for all of my dendrobiums now. Thanks Ray!

Nice to know. While I'm not really a Dendro fan, I do plan on S/H for some rather large orchids and this will help. Thanks.

Sure, I'm just getting started with all of this. But good luck with the noid den and a large phal , is making me a believer in the SH culture, especially for top heavy plants.

For some reason, the roots are just so much bigger and healthier looking .

Still, I get bored very easily, so I will continue to try other mediums until I find another one that works out well for me.

I might end up going to all SH but I get to have fun experimenting! with all those different materials!

Linnie~~

What type of dens do you have? I have switched some of my tall ones to LECA S/H to stop the tip over as well. I would be interested in your pics. Would you please include the canes/leaves?

Thanks~~
Pedi

How deep do you bury your den? I have a den that is about 2 feet tall with barely any roods. It keeps tipping over. We had high gust winds the other day and my den got blown out of it's pot and now there is LECA everywhere. Still need to go pick up all the little balls.

I use the crushed red lava rock for my dendrobiums. They do well in it and the weight from the lava rock helps keep the pot upright.

pickin up the little balls is no pain..stepping on the little balls in bare feet before you pick them up is where the pain happens ...My nephew still thinks they are cocoa puffs..Of course he followed a rabbit around for a while trying to fill his bowl up with them cocoa puffs too..
