Repot a new (arrived with the post) chid into S/H?

Okay, thats not the best title, but this is a plant that im reciving in the post in a few days.
Its an Oncidium, and i know this species like S/H. But i dont know what shape it will arrive in. I do belive its healthy, i trust the seller, but i dont know if its got any new root-growth. Its arriving packed in moss, ang i have to repot it asap. I have not before recived chids in the post, therefor im a bit nervous about the next step...
What to do?

I have most of my chids in S/H, but i am wondering what to do if the new chid does not have any new root-growth when it arrives...
Sholud i pot it into sphag, and wait until it starts growing, and then repot into S/H, or will that just course more stress to the chid?

I was thinking about doing the sphag and bag-thing, but i have not had any luck before. And this chid has roots, its not rootless... Maybe put it in S/H, put a bag over it and set it aside somewhere shady?

I just think it would be too mutch to pot it into bark/moss at first, and then repot again after it shows new growth...

i will be watching this thread because i just repotted my phrag yesterday and it did not have any new roots. I did it because it was already used to the moist environment.

Ive done the same, but mostly with Phals. And it seems like phals adapt a bit more easy than some other chids. But the clue to me, is what environement the chids where used to... mine where used to moist as well...
With this one i simply dont know.

Guess ill have to wait and see when it arrives... if it has active growth, all my worrying wasent needed anyway.

A plant that has been in moss is likely reasonably accustomed to wet roots, so the transition to s/h culture is often quick.

Otherwise, the key to a good transition is warmth, shade, and very high humidity - minimizing the stress on the plant while it does grow new roots.

My experience tells me that catts are the pickiest about timing in relation to the growth of new roots.

Abby - phrags prefer wet conditions. The lack of new root growth is of little concern. It should start producing new roots in no time.

Ill see what the chid looks like when it arrives, but i will probably repot as soon as i can *s*

And the chid arriwed with a lot of new growth, and got repotted into S/H asap. Now ive put a bag over the chid, put it into a shady and warm place, and are going to water it frequently the next weeks.
It was a georgeus oncidium, and im really looking foreward till its about blooming-size!
