Pleurothallids in S/H

Is anyone growing any of the Pleurothallids in S/H? If so, did you take the plant out of sphagnum moss? I am kind of a klutz and when repotting the Pleuros, I always seem to tear the heck out of the root system in attempting to remove old decaying moss. Maybe someone would give me some guidance in removing the old moss and still save some of the roots. Thanks.
