Hey!

These are the hydros I keep in another apartment, they are all new (except the one by the lamp, it was a gift given to me months ago) and most of them are repotted into semi-hydro.

The two giants ( 27 inch stems) are drinking water like mad. I havent repotted them yet since Im waiting for pots, but they soak up water like a sponge. I missed watering one of them for 2 days and one of them lost lots of buds, dried ut like raisins Did not like that at all!

One of the chids (the one by the lamp) was given to me as a good-bye-good-luck gift after 10 weeks of practice at a lawfirm. The media is regular compost, bark and bits of other stuff, and it sits in a outer pot that is long and made of cement. The plant looks great, have all its flowers left after many months and is growing a new leaf and a new little thingy on the side. What I didnt realize at the beginning is that the outer pot is filled with LECA on the bottom, and every time I watered the orchid the water would would go through the pot and down to the LECAs and that way keep the roots moist all the time.

New growth

New leaf

That's when I realized that semi-hydro is the way to go. I hope the others will like being in their semi-hydro pots filled with LECAs. Only time can tell.

You know Sandy, I am not exactly sure my phal just didn't thrive in it, but it had suffer quite a bit before the transfer so I guess timing wasn't right.

The following is the whole story http://www.orchidboard.com/community...t-timer-d.html followed by http://www.orchidboard.com/community...-root-rot.html (same phal)

I'd appreciate feedback in case you see something I might have overlooked

But as I said, I want to give it another try, I just want my orchids to be strong and healthy (I have adopted a rescue mood more than a buyer one )

The phal's current status... dormant, it was finally potted in a bark/leca/moss mix and so far no new growth but the leaves got stronger and perkier....
