I may be way off on this, but the irregularity of the flower growth and the strange, twisted nature of the vegetation makes me think "virus".

Oh no, virus? Well, its growing nice, maybe it could be a mutation? haha, and here I thought that I had bought a really special one The flower is really thick and have a wax like texture. I hope it will continue to grow, I'll keep you posted.

Could be a virus. Could also be a very weird gene mutation. In either case, there's something not right with that orchid.
No offense, Sandy, but that's one orchid I would have passed up. Your other plants are nice, however.

I'm with Ray on this I surely would keep it away from the other plants, maybe have it tested IMO.

Thank you for the reassurance Terri : For a moment there I thought I had blown it. Now all I need to do is ensure the health of the phal so they'll all know I was right , and of course to see it bloom again!!!!!
And Sandy... I really hope the texture of your orchid is not a virus. I'd be awesome to have a paper maché phal.

Weird plant endeed...
I have a chid that have a similare leaf-strukture... but i dont know what the flowers looks like. I found a beginning spike today, and im really curious to see the blooms! I got it from my mother in law, and she dont remember what color the flowers are...
The leafs are thin but firm, and you can see on the pic that there are lines running down the leaf.
This one didnt look all that good a few weeks ago, but firmed right back up after the repot into S/H *s*
Youre other chids looks nice!

It might be a virus, and if it is, it made a pretty cool looking bloom. it's possible that no one in the world has a phal that looks like that. That in itself is pretty impressive. I would have bought that in a second. Maybe you can sell it for thousands.

I would have given it a try too. It's weird, no discussion about that but in general, I think it is an interesting looking plant... If you want to be sure whether it is a virus or a mutation (or something else) you can make an experiment: buy a cheap supermarket NOID, one you would not care if it does not survive, and artificially "infect" it withsecretion of your Phal WeirdOID, and wait and see what happens If it is a virus, your cheap NOID will start developing the same symptoms... just what I would do in that case

Jikes, I have a monster on my windowsill! Now, that could be a good idea, infecting something else and see if it is a virus? I had planned to put this one in a semi-hydro with Lecas like the other ones, and Im not sure if it will like that. But I will give it a try.
How would I infect a flower with the monsters secretion, do I cut of the leaf and squeeze out whatever there is to squeeze, or the roots? And where do I put this secretion?
