I don't think it's a particularly good idea for phals unless you water very frequently, or grow outdoors where it rains a lot.

I grow quite a few plants in PrimeAgra in regular pots, and they dry out quite rapidly, something phals don't go for.

Hi Linda

Almost all of my chids are in straight LECA including my Phal hybrids. I hang the Phal species sideways in a basket or mount with a little sphag.

I grow all of my orchids in aliflor, and I water every 3-4 days for most of them. They are all doing fine, even my Milts

Thanks for the input. I tend to overwater everything, including phals. I like the routine of every 3-4 days to water ( I think it makes me feel nurturing ) I work graveyard shift and go straight to bed when I get home in the morning, so, I water when I can.

I have set up in leca, but its basically semi-hydro as I never allow the water dish to get dry. The plant has tons of roots.
