I would like to find out normal growth rate of oncidiums. I have an idea, but don't know if it is correct. 1 to 2 new bulbs a year.
In 15 months i have 9 or 10new bulbs. 4 flower spikes.

Water is the true driving force for growth. If you’ve figured out how to grow them with a basically unlimited water supply, all orchids will grow faster than they would using a technique that limits the water.

Oncidium, in my experience, are some of the faster growing orchids.

Yes. The hybrids often have 4-5 growing periods per year when temperatures, humidity and light are ideal. During a growth period the most recent pseudobulbs may make 1-4 new growths, each. Each new growth should make 1 or more spikes of flowers.

There is a couple ways to think about this. One is how many "waves" of growth are there? Orchids tend to grow all their bulbs at once, then start again, sometimes punctuated by a rest period. Almost like generations. Any healthy plant should have a normal amount of generations. Most plants wont grow 10 generations of bulbs a year, when the norm is 2. No matter how well grown they are. Another aspect is how many leads does it have? How often do they multiply? A very vigerous plant will develop new leads a lot, which makes the plant gain size very quickly. I suspect your plants have developed a lot of leads so they grow many bulbs at once.

At least thats how i think about it with Cattleya. Might be different with Oncidiums.
