S/H Cymbidiums

OK, so I am finally giving it a big try after years of skepticism - how many others are doing Cymbidiums in S/H. What media? What Fertilizer? What water quality?
Is anyone using "Stalite" or "Permatil"?

Many years ago, much of my business was the importation of Chinese cymbidiums from Taiwan. They typically came in 2 or 3 bulbs and a new growth, and in-spike (usually 500 at a time. I don't miss potting them all up.). They all went into 4/5" S/H pots of PrimeAgra and I hardly even lost a bud.

I don't know what Permatil is, but stalite (expanded slate or shale - I don't recall which) is not a particularly good medium in my opinion, as it packs too tightly and only absorbed about half the volume of water compared to any brand of LECA I tested.

I have 7 cyms in s/h. Big cyms and little cyms which are thriving in prime agra. I used seaweed extract to promote rooting and(as an experiment) the cym is very happy. ruthann
