My Dendro. 'Pegasus' has begun developing keikis in the leaf axils of the largest cane. The keikis have developed roots a couple of mm long (about 1/8 - 1/4 inch).
I want to remove a couple and try this plant as semi-hydro. Having never done this before, what's the best way to remove some keikis and how long should I let the roots develop before I start removing them?
It's always best to wait until there are 2-3 roots, each about 2-3 inches long before removing the keikis. Removing them is pretty simple to do...you can usually "twist" it off at the base of the keiki. If it doesn't twist easily, use a sharp knife to remove it and cover the wound, if there is any made to the mother cane, with some cinnamon.
I took a keiki from a den and put it in s/h. I cut the keiki of the mother and the roots (5 roots) were approx. 3 in. long. It is doing great!! ruthann
