Decorative pots can be workable - in various environments. Although some growers do mention benefits of air-movement through the media (and around the roots also in the media). So - in some places - decorative pots could hinder air-flow ----- which could slow down water movement around the media - and lead to certain unwanted conditions in the pot. Although ---- air movement also depends on whether we have air-flow in the growing area. So if there's little air-flow in the growing area --- then not much is going to be going through the media and around the roots. However - the temperature needs to be considered too - as air-flow through moist media and over roots will be linked to evaporation and cooling. And cold wet roots for long times can be an issue. So if growing tropical type orchids ----- it's beneficial to maintain warm enough temperatures.

But - as usual - if an orchid grower's system works ------ and works well for very long times, then all is ok ---- green light.

Yes that makes sense. That is something to be aware of for the clay decorative pots. I would always have the orchids potted in a nursery container and then sitting in the decorative pots.

I dont think I would pot the orchids directly in the decorative clay pots. I just wouldn’t trust myself to know what’s going on with the roots. I admire growers who do!

Thanks for the message about air flow, esp about the cool moist air being potentially harmful for their roots. I will keep that in mind too. Especially regarding my interest in LECA.
