What is the best non-invasive way to check for new root growth? What exactly does new growth look like compared to "old" growth?

Thanks!

If you are referring to checking to make sure it's time to move into S/H culture, that time is when you see new roots forming at the base of the plant, not new growth on the existing roots.

Yes, I am referring to a 'chid's readiness to move into S/H. Can I see the new roots without moving the plant out of the media (ie, "above ground")?
