Fuzzy Hydroponics
I've recently (March 16) moved this paph Minnie May x Maudiae ‘Clair de Lune’ into semi-hydroponics and the top of the pebbles are getting fuzzy. Is this a normal thing that happens because of the constant moisture or is there anything else going wrong here?

Hello Richard! I move a phal of mine not so long ago either and a similar thing happened to me, it was just one pebble that looked fuzzy so I removed it and it hasn't happen since, considering is been in a plastic bag afterwards.
Since my phal was experiencing root rot at the time I assumed it either had something to do with the rot, or it was just some organic matter from my plant that wasn't taken off before repotting.
I hope somebody more experience has a better answer for you, I'd remove the pebbles as first measure, hope this helped

Sorry I'm not the expert here, but it sounds like alge or mold. Spores are in the air all the time, so probably just clean it off with some disinfectant. BTW your plants look great.

the fuzzy stuff is mold... commonly from the dying roots or the organic media that made its way into the container when u transplanted.
since u just changed over to s/h, there's really nth much u can do about it. as long there are lots of roots dying and organic matter... things like this will happen... it doesnt happen to me much nowadays, but back then i would just not water at all until the reservoir died up.
lack of humidity and once all the organic matter decays away, the mold will have nth to 'eat' and they will die (aka. go away).
this is my 2 cent. despite it looking terrible. i would just leave it and forget it until the next watering, haha. the transition is always painful to look at T-T leaf tips browning, roots dying... **shivers** but they will recover most of the time, so just relax ^^

its mold..without a doubt.
My paph looked the same when I rescued it, but its doing great now.
Spray that with physan, or go organic with cinnamon, pepper and garlic. I usually go organic (it does work), but after a month of battling with an anguola SH transplant, the physan fixed everything...

It thrives even more in low light, low air flow situations. Do you ever run a fan on these guys? Hydrogen peroxide works. Dilute it down if you want and give the pot a good flushing.

Use the 3% stuff straight from the bottle, with no dilution.
The first photo shows more of a web-like structure, and that too can be a mold, or it might be tiny insects.

Yup, get that under control before it takes off, or you'll spend months having the plants recovering from it as I did...

Would using a fungicide like a Thiomyl/Dithane or something along those lines work? I noticed this on some of mine as well.
