General S/H question, what do you use to catch the water?

The last time we forgot to turn off a hose outside completely, it ran for about a week and water bill was $340. I imagine next bill will be similar. Waah, waah, wahh. No sewer... septic. Just paid $8.4K to have whole thing replaced two years ago. Not exactly "cheap" sewer.
