B. nodosa questions

I grew mine very potbound in clay. It was hanging 3" from the light with a south window to the back. Temps never below 70f and it ran dry. Watered maybe once a week.

I also have a duplicate mounted. While the mounted plant bloomed better, the potted one grew faster. Which finally achieved size and bloomed this year. Hope that helps someone.

My 2 cents on B. nodosa is to give it as much light as you can. First one I got I put in partial shade and for years it grew but barely flowered. After getting another and seeing them growing in the wild, I mounted it in close to full sun and it's doing much better.

It's only "obvious" because we're on the SH forum (Semi-Hydroponic Culture). Involves growing with an inert media, a reservoir, but not full hydroponics which exchanges water between plants.

It IS a statue of The Scream guy. I'll post a better picture of it here. I gave it to my elder daughter many years ago. Got it back after she passed. Originally saw it for sale in one of those sale magazines on an airplant.

Good to know! This will be a new experiment for me, including watering something in bark! I thought you didn't "do" mounts anymore DollytheHun?

Got here a bit late after 9 days on thev road (speaking to 5 OSs).

I grow mine in net pot (3.1/2") with all spagnum.
In greenhouse with night time heating to 50F only.
Watering once a week in winter, twice a week rest of the year.
In one year it has gone from 4 bulb single lead to 4 or 5 leads.

My (many) nodosa hybrids show similar growth/vigor under those conditions.

I grow mine in LECA, normal pots. Watering twice a week most of the year, maybe weekly during winter. I leave some water in the saucer that evaporates in a few days, so it's more or less s/h. Full sun whenever possible, even in the summer.

Mine blooms twice a year, it has 3 bloom stalks right now.

Is this going to be indoors or out?

I grow mine in wooden baskets and they love it. But that’s outside and in Florida.

I'm in Kansas. About six months outside, six months inside under lights in a basement grow area, commonly referred to as my Batcave. But this guy is going to stay in my sun room this winter so I can keep a close eye on it as it as the division transitions to SH and the mother plant stays with it in bark. A cautious experiment.

Well that sounds very hopeful for me to get a good transition to SH. As does Fairorchids' comment about 50f nights.

Speaking of which, I'd better get a picture of them posted now that potted, so there will be something to compare to as it grows along.

I have to agree, have a few in LECA and soaring well, mounted with less aggression. Both showing signs of blooming....
