How to keep Leca from drying out.
Default Leca

Thanks. That is great news since I have quite a few plants and the bag from Ikea didn't go very far.

I believe Home Depot sells HydroCrunch. If so, that's what I use for everything.

Default Leca

That's great. I wanted to purchase it but I needed some info from actual users, first.
Thanks!

The watering system with timer arrived yesterday, which uses four AAA batteries. The system is definitely workable. The motor is definitely powerful enough to draw up the water from a water tank that is placed nearby - but below the level of the plants. The reason for placing below the level of the plant (and not above) is to avoid a siphoning effect, which could make the water just keep coming out even when the pump turns off.

The nice thing about it is, the duration of watering can be from 1 second burst (which probably won't be used - too short heheheh) up to 99 seconds.

So for keeping LECA wet a bit up the top, just spread the tubes around a bit up the top, or put small little micro-sprays aimed at LECA surface, and automatically spray a short burst.

This system as it is, can be programmed to water every day, or every 2 days, or every 3 days, etc.

I'm sure that it's possible to just grab the pump section and use something else to turn the pump on and off, such as spray once several times a day (if needed).

Talking Auto water system

I looked at the kits you suggested and it looks like a great idea.
So many to choose from but there is one that uses both batteries and a micro usb.

Thanks!

Most welcome. The system you mentioned --- with both batteries and usb power sounds good. Good for reliability.
