Hi,

Someone gave me an orchid because they were "killing" it (like it would stand a better chance with me, LOL).The leaves and the red-ish bloom (fall-winter) certainly look like a Phal. to me....

I don't want to derail this discussion into another chin wag about fluorescent lighting. If anyone DOES have an equation or rule of thumb about duration/intensity that I could use until I gain a...

I don't always get such clear, easy to follow answers when I ask a question about orchids. ;) There is often so much ambiguity and debate that I'm glad there's one thing this simple to do. Thanks,...

Dummy's Encyclia Coch. question--all those bulbs?

I have had an Ency. (Pros.) cochleata for years and it is almost always in bloom. But once a pbulb has leafed and bloomed, well, there it is, forever idle, as new pbulbs appear. They don't really...

Ross,

I got a meter (one that actually works). Now I'm gathering data.

Charley's Greenhouse was true to its word and gave me a full refund--and didn't ask me to return the meter if I believed it was defective, which I do.

Now I back in the dark again about the light....

Reality check: 4 T8s=6000 fc?

I just got a light meter today and at six inches under my bank of 4 T8s it gives a reading of 6000fc--or at least I think it does. Is that even remotely possible?

Unless I am missing something...
