Self-watering pots?? Safe??

Has anyone used self watering pots (with the cotton string) for their phals? I’m have an underwatering issue in my dry climate and hope this can help.

Dehydrated or over watered???

My PHAL leaves are green and leathery. Is that a sign of dehydration? On the flip side, I have one PHAL that has leathery yellow leaves and very little roots. Is this from root rot and overwatering?
