phal dying stem question
Hello,
I've had this stem deterioration happen on 2 previous phals, and now this one. Does the stem/s just decide that it's time to die back - or, and more likely, what am I doing wrong?

Ray's plan does make more sense to me - as mentioned above that the wick process would be more effective for smaller tighter media.
Plus, I suspect that Ray is old and wise.
I'm just old.

Will this pot system work for SH?
I've been using these "self watering pots" lately with pretty good success - using orchiata pinus radiata bark as a medium, figuring that I could move to clay pellets if the pots worked out.

Thank you for your response.
Maybe the photo can't depict the fact that just about every root has no substance - when I squeeze them there is nothing there to feel but the actual root itself....

I've read Orchid Board posts that say to cut off all bad/dead/mushy roots - at the crown.
I've read posts that say just remove the dead velum, and leave the bare roots.
