I wrap enough moss around the plant to hold it in the top of the clay pot. The bottom half of the pot is empty. This allows air to roots and you can water heavily because it dries out very quickly.

After being unsuccessful growing rupi's in rocks (under lights), Fred Clarke from Sunset Valley Orchids suggested clay pots with a collar of sphagnum moss, leaving the bottom half of the pot empty....
