It's officially gone. I was hoping some tiny bit might make it, but it was all covered in mould and the canes were soft. Thanks for trying, though. I appreciate all the help.

So it's a lost cause at this point? I was afraid of that.. The onc is doing rather well, though. Aside from one bulb that looks a bit funny, the rest of it looks really good. It's got lots of...

Lost another leaf, so now there's only one left and it's not looking too great. The tip of the one cane has been getting a bit of fuzzy white mould on it. I hit it once with Physan and I've kept...

That's a good way to look at it, but my concern was with the mould and any spores that may have spread to other surfaces since it's soon to be in a fairly anaerobic environment.

That sounds like a plan, then. Once it dries, I'll trim off the dead roots and infected canes, then give it a good soak in some warm kelp solution. After it dries again, I'll bag it up and hope for...

My terrarium has a misting system that mists for 10 sec/2x a day to water and maintain humidity, that's why I asked.

I read that KelpMax is supposed to help rootless orchids develop new roots. ...

This one isn't Fire Wings, it's just an unidentified den. Fire Wings is still just a seedling. I do have a terrarium that's at 100% humidity. Would the misting be a problem, though?

That wet lesion I the first picture goes into the cane and bubbles a bit if the cane moves, so I'm guessing it'll have to come off..

So a little update on the den and the onc.. The den has lost several leaves now. A few days ago, I took it out of the medium it was in and put it in some hydroton to dry up a bit. The roots were...

That would've been my next question: net pots v. solids. I use net pots for nearly all my orchids and normally water by soaking, too. I think I'll give the hydroton a shot and see how it goes.

I actually have a local source for hydroton and I used it for the drainage in the bottom of my viv. Would it be a good substitute for the red lava or does it hold too much moisture?

What about hydroton, then? It's porous and leaves plenty of room for aeration, but nice and smooth so it wouldn't damage the roots.

I've got a fairly good idea what my limits are. I do have a vivarium with a couple orchids in it, but I'd rather stay in range of normal household conditions. I'd love to have some vandas, milts,...

And for the oncidium? Would the same coarse bark work? And does it matter if it's bark or coconut husk? Also, I'm curious how you can tell so easily that it's a Den phal and not just a den.

Would something like the All Purpose Monterrey Bark Imperial Orchid Mix from RepotMe work for both this one and my oncidium? It's small and medium pine bark with medium sponge rock and granite chips.

Yellowing Canes on Dendrobium
