Disa Cornuta

Out of curiosity, how are either one of your relocated Disa cornutas doing, Des and clone137?

The plant that I relocated using the pipe method grew and flowered for me .I was very excited as this is the first time that I have successfully transplanted Disa Cornuta. We are currently having the worst drought in living memory. My rainwater tank has been empty since January. I can only hope that the plants out in the wild can handle this .

I wouldn't worry about the plant.

Try pollinating the flowers. You can save a few seedpods for yourself and sprinkle some seeds around the mother plant (or you can let the seed pods burst on their own, but you have no control over where they land).

The other seed pods you can sell or trade. I guess the point is to make sure the genes get passed on so it doesn't go out. If you decide to sell or trade, each seed pod must be kept separate from each other. Selling or trading should be done as soon as possible to retain seed viability.

I remembered that in the Cape of South Africa, there's a lab that specializes in conserving and sowing the seeds of Disas. They have a major project effort to propagate Disa barbata in-vitro.
