There is little to no other color showing in the pic except blue. With photoshop and such available at a very reasonable price, I look at most photos as most likely "touched up" to look however the marketer desires. The little amount of yellowish tone would be ease to 'paint' in as desired. If I were showing off a true blue phalae, the first of it's kind, I would provide a color scale (reds, yellows, greens) that would show that the hue was truly blue; even the background in the photo has a blue haze to it, so again, I am not convinced that this pic is representative of a new color palette in the phalae family.
Interesting to wait and see!

I agree that the picture doesn't look real. But the video does! Scientists make world's 1st blue orchid

Bob-
you and I are on the same wavelength! I googled the term "Japanese blue orchid aphrodite" and found the video of the introduction of the orchid. The text clearly states that the flower is the result of genetic engineering - as said above - the blue hue comes from the Asiatic dayflower. I have to admit - real or not, I am not a fan - it looks like a dyed flower to me, even though it isn't. Blue phalaenopsis just don't look right to me!
Don't mean to offend, just a personal opinion.
Steve

The article also states that each plant produces 30 flowers or so....looks to me like there are 4 or so plants together in each container, 30 flowers per 4 or 5 plants maybe...not sure that I like.

They will have essentially the same flower count potential as the plant they started with before adding the gene for blue pigmentation. Reportedly it was the species Phal aphrodite, certainly capable of 30 flowers per spike in a good specimen.

Got it but in the video they are not showing the 30 flowers per plant that is for sure - misleading if you ask me.

Yes, they are, but they're not as difficult as Caladenias.

Some can be grown with some knowledge and dedication.

You can't make much money selling Thely's on the cut flower or pot plant markets, though. Even in the hobbiest market, they wouldn't get a look in for grand champion.
