Have you gone to the library at your college? Start there.
There are some specialized journals in Orchids like Lankasteriana. Your other interests are wide, and there is, to my knowledge, no special journal for surveys of orchids, ect.. For that look at Ecology, American Naturalist, etc.. Data collection depends on what data you want to collect. If you think about data in Herbaria, possibly look at the SPNHC-Journal [pronounced "Spinach" in the field].
Systematics/Phylogenetics: Systematic Biology, Cladistics, Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution, Phytotaxa.
Then learn to use Current Contents and the various databases. Talk to the reference librarian at your school about that. For older literature look at Biodiversity History Library.
Just off the top of my head as a non-botanist.
