I think it's exciting to read that it is still found in nature in Florida but on the flip side of the coin, I feel that it's exposure might be a danger to it's safety. I just hope it's respected as endangered and left untouched ...

I read this article and what a great place to share with orchid lovers. I agree so whole heartedly on preserving it's natural habitat. A speaks for itself "No Touching"
:Hmm: flhicker frequents the area's of preserves, he has shared so much with the OB hobbist.
Thanks for sharing...

Ghost Orchid
I've been to Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary. Maybe I'll run out there to see it. It will be safe--the Audubon Society runs the Sanctuary.
Thanks for posting the article!

WOW! what a find, The plant had 9 count them 9 flowers on it. I am going tomorrow Friday with a pair of high powered binocular to see it first hand. I understand that is the only way to see it. It is about 150 ft away from the boardwalk and 45 feet up in a tree. If my camera is able to bring it in I will post some pictures. This picture is from the Sun-Sentinel new paper.

Update I went to see the ghost orchid and I cant tell you how happy I am to be able to witness a extraordinary plant in person. I was told that the flower will only be there for about a week and 1 has already bit the dust. I was able to get a couple of pictures from my camera but only when I held it up to the lens of binoculars, not the best pictures. There is a worker at the site with a spotting scope for everyone to see it up close. In the gift shop they already had note cards and matted picture for sale from $9.00 for note cards (4) and $85.00 for a 8x10 matted pic. wow they don't waste any time. I will have to keep this one in mind next year. By the way the plant is pretty safe from theft, they have patrols in the area.

Well it seems Iam going to be famous, While I was at Corkscrew swamp taking pictures of the ghost orchid. A reporter (Andrew West)from The News-Press was taking pictures of the people coming to see it. My hiking buddy and my shelf were mentioned, he is the 2nd picture and I happen to be in the last one. Now my life is complete The News-Press: Local & State
