That is an amazing plant, how exciting to be there to witness the blooms, and to actually see that plant!

Very educational link, Dave. Thanks for sharing. I am so much against moving ANY orchid in nature that I could never comprehend anyone wanting to try it. We have enough problems with the relatively common orchids we discuss here on the board. Thanks again.

OK, I've GOT to ask. . .is anyone trying to grow one of the legal ones that are available?

I just think those are the most beautiful plants I've ever seen. CAN it be done in say, an exo terra tank?

P.S. I just loved all the photos and articles! You guys are so cool and so much fun to listen to. . ur, read!

Glad you enjoyed the info. I have offered this before and its been awhile but if you or any member on the OB are ever down in S. Florida let me know (by PM) and I would be glad to show you and yours what we have to offer in the way of wild orchids. (no gps's) so anyway I did have a ghost orchid that I got from ebay and it seemed to be doing OK. I was trying to keep it natural as possible so I hung it in a Croton bush that had good moss growth on it but I had a family of moscoby ducks come by and destroy it yesterday either it fell on the ground or they took it down. Yes the ducks are still alive

Thanks so much, Dave. . .your offer is so generous! I would love to go hiking and exploring, hunting for orchids witcha.

Dang those ducks! Making you give up the ghost like that. . .that was just rude! I am sure there was plenty of grass and such nearby.

Note to self: Must consider maximum jumping height of local wildlife when determing location, location, location for $30 wad of ghost orchid roots.

Hey flhiker,

Isn't this an interesting idea for a photo?

Ghost Orchid Blooms in Stages

____________________________

Hey Sue! A suggestion for another project!

Project Bloom Capture:

Shoot great photo of any blooming plant in stages like the ghost orchid above.

Wouldn't it be wonderful to see something like that in a calendar ? ALL different kinds of exotic blooms set in all black backgrounds.
