There was an article focusing on fertilizing Paphiopedilums a few years ago in "Orchids" magazine (ah, when I could afford AOS membership!); it included photos over a couple of years' time of plants (Paphs) fertilized weekly, bi-monthly, monthly, etc.
It was really startling to see how much smaller the plants were that were fed weekly.
I don't have the issue any more, I gave it to my friend who actually tries to grow these critters. Interesting, though. Surely the response to fertilizers in general depends on the genera - local wisdom says to fertilize the heck out of catasetinae when then are in growth, and gawd help me, I believe it.
