‘Ello . I think I might try flasking for the first time on two natives and one non-native orchid, platanthera ciliaris, platanthera blephariglottis, and habenaria radiata. I do know about basic flasking but have never done it before, and if these are particularly difficult orchids to germinate then please tell me, as I’d rather start with something easier first. I’m guessing the platanthera’s need stratification first? Not sure about the habenaria. Are there any more requirements needed before flasking? If so, what are they?

I would recommend you also contact professionals like Marni Turkel in CA and Sean at Orchid Origins. It's a dying art and I'm sure they would be keen to get a youngster motivated. They could also refer you to other resources.

Marni is a lady. She used to sell her own, don't know about now. Sean runs a flasking service.

Unlike their European cousins which are among the easiest orchids to grow from seed, even without flasking, North American Platanthera have a reputation as difficult to germinate.
