BTW re. snails in your last blog are you referring to the very small snails which reside inside orchid pots? - they are called garlic snails in Australia. There apparently are chemicals for treating these but are extremely toxic and dangerous to us - not available in Australia without special licences. For a safer solution have a look at what the AOS had to say here -
Snails and Slugs. I use the Iron based one around the orchid pots. The ones containing Metaldehyde are more toxic and seem to be commercially offered less-and-less because of their toxicity. There are also ones containing Methiocarb. Again for use outside pots.
