Hey, I've been wanting to try that. That's a version I might even be able to do. You are truely an inspiration. I never woulda thought of the aluminum foil tops and the pipettes either. Neato. Thanks

I've got a big pod that is just about ripe too.

One question. Do you have to buy new lids for the canning jars each time you use them (like if you were canning)? I guess not since you put that aluminum foil there.

I don't understand anything about replating though. Like when you do it and how you go about it? Any references on that that you are aware of? TIA

I have not re-plated them , good thing i did the re-plate jars they sat for over a month then grew mold.
I vented them used the micro pore tape over small holes in the lid ,didn't work , good thing I had not moved them . They will grow slower, once they have roots I will put them in nuked Spag rinsed in very dilute Physan .
Here is a picture of what one of the jars look like now . Ginny Lou

Normally, any latent contamination will surface within 5-10 days. It sounds like incidental contamination after successful sterilization. If it took a month to start showing, I'd check the tightness of your lids and/or double up on the vent closures (maybe on the inside too). Just a thought.

With vents in your lids, pressure is able to equalize as they cool. I normally just autoclave them with the cap loose and foil on top. I tighten the lids while still hot, touching only the foil. I've had zero % contamination in prepared flasks (until I put something in them, then I contaminate about 20%).

Thanks for the insight ,
I did double the tape , and left the tops loose in the pressure cooker, only thing I can think of is the tops were not tight enough .. Gin

Have you used band aids, porous tape or the special tape with micro pores?

I'm kind of curious too. I talk, but Gin's been doing this longer than me for sure.

Gin,
2 or 3 pieces of 3m micropore (micropore: thin & stick but not shrink, transpore: shrink): + a round Curad sensitive spots. Never have problem, cheap & look professional.
