Found this on my C aurantiaca today
This whitish thing is on only one of the blooms...is it the start of a seed pod?

The seed pods normally occur as swelling of the ovary which is behind the flower. At least this is true with ones I have - don't know the one you show here.

I'm just curious...if it does turn out to be a seed pod, anybody who wants it is welcome to it.

Looks like a mild deformity... Even the best of parents sometimes birth a down syndrome child... Looks like the lip "fell" to expose its genitalia and from the picture it looks as though that flower has 3 sepals and 1 petal(instead of 2 petals). If you cloned this plant you could call it 'The Flasher' or 'Superman' <-from GOONIES!!!

True, looks like its missing a petal (sepal) and column has been exposed. You have a pervert orchid.
As far as I know, Ross is correct. The seed pod is actually the stalk holding the flower (this is the ovary to be correct) because in the case of these orchids, the flower is superior to the ovary.

If you feel like pollinating it, I'd LOVE some C. aurantica seed. I'd make it worth your while...
